A Midcentury Modern mash-up of mid-1950s sharp angles and soft, blended edges, the basic leg and top shapes of this remarkable table are cut on a CNC, while the curved edges are carefully shaped by hand, filed and sanded to perfect the areas where the round meets the flat of the leg. A thick curved bottom top nestles between the legs, adding a softer sculptural element. Finished with an imported, all-natural oil finish that is plant-based, non-toxic, and of extraordinary durability.

Slice Furniture
"I make the mid-century modern you've never seen before."

Slice Furniture is Kevin Costello, making furniture in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Furniture became his focus after starting to re-upholster Mid-Century Modern chairs and couches frequently found on curbs and in dumpsters in the design savvy Detroit, Michigan, area. He spent his days modeling CAD (computer-aided design) parts for the automotive and aircraft industries. At night, he tore apart lounge chairs and attended the College for Creative Studies.

Watching a CNC machine shape a piece of wood will never get old, but over time, the lure of the art of woodworking revealed a value added that can only be accomplished by hand. Today Kevin's industrial modern designs combine cutting-edge technology with fine craftsmanship.

A Philosophy degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison provided Costello conceptual tools. He learned design process at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit. A restless nature kept him pursuing varied designer jobs, providing him a global perspective, travelling overseas while doing design work for Opel in Germany, Isuzu/GM in Japan, and GM in Brazil. He moved to Minnesota to take advantage of the tremendous woodworking resources in the Twin Cities. After enrolling in a cabinetmaking program, he befriended a Biesse CNC router, hooked his computer and CAD software to it, and started making modern furniture in 2008.
