Tapio
"I create unique furniture and lighting using a variety of quality materials in unconventional ways. The results are one of a kind products that add character and utility to your home. I make minimal, modern craft."

Tapio's designs are practical yet elegant solutions to daily household problems. From lighting to seating, Tapio products have an organic sense of simplicity and refined form found in the likes of mid-century classics. Their products are made with purpose and soul... and primarily wood.

Tapio light shades are made of wood veneer and sheet metals such as brass and copper. The malleability of these materials allow the lighting to take on organic forms while the beech veneer provides a translucent glow. Tapio furniture incorporates American hardwoods as well as other repurposed materials. Their lamp bases are made of rock that is found and cut in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Hans Gottsacker started Tapio with a comprehensive line of lighting and furniture in a 400 sqr. ft showroom in Marquette, Michigan in 2018. He received a BFA in Woodworking and Furniture Design from Northern Michigan University in 2010 and an MFA in Woodworking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2014. Hans continues to develop new designs and further add to the Tapio catalogue.
