Desmond Suarez
"I handcraft every piece to reflect the God-given natural beauty of the select Appalachian hardwoods I use. Timeless original designs, traditional joinery, functionality, and meticulous, hand-rubbed finishes ensure heirloom quality."

Desmond Suarez believes that attention to detail in design, craftsmanship, and finish is an essential component of his work. His work is inspired by the functional beauty of the Arts and Crafts movement as well as Shaker, Scandinavian, and Japanese designs.

Suarez uses traditional joinery techniques (including mortise and tenon, pegged joinery, and dovetails) to make the strongest pieces possible. He uses select kiln-dried Appalachian hardwoods. He also spends much time on a detailed hand-rubbed oil finish, which makes his work as tactilely pleasant as it is aesthetically beautiful.

Desmond Suarez is a second-generation furniture designer and maker who grew up in a home resplendent with design and craftsmanship. His mother designed homes and furniture, and he worked with his father in his furniture and cabinet shops. His formal education was earned in North Carolina, England, and Tennessee, where he earned degrees in art, history, religion, and education. He worked for twenty years as a commercial furniture designer before founding his own studio.
