Fiber artist Tess McGuire grew up in Switzerland and loved knitting from an early age. She discovered felting about ten years ago and became fascinated with the process that involves hot water, soap, and friction to turn a loosely knitted fabric into a warm, solid, and virtually waterproof garment. McGuire has been experimenting with different shapes and colors ever since.

The artist begins each hat using wool yarn on a knitting loom, then runs the knitted shapes through the hot cycle of a washing machine to felt the fibers. Once felted, the hats are shaped, allowed to dry, and brushed. Flowers consist of various fabrics that have a broach pin on the back for easy removal.

Tess McGuire attended San Jose State University where she majored in Arts with an emphasis in Textiles. After several years of creating hats part time, McGuire took the leap and began marketing her work through craft fairs and galleries.

Very attractive hat

The size is perfect, and the brim can be adjusted into various positions. My only disappointment is the red band definitely does not "pop" in color as it does on the website. If it looked like the photo, then it would be much more attractive. The red was the true reason I chose to purchase the hat. This is a product I had been reviewing for a year and decided it would be just the touch for me. Thank you

I am a lover of hats, hats and even more hats.
When the black, charcoal and red around my head arrived I named it 'NULA.' Nula instantly ' became one of my favorites'. As I looked at the others carefully placed on the wall I knew they were not happy at all. As they looked at Nula they would stay on the wall this summer and would not walk with me down the hall.
