For over two decades, fashion designer Vilma Mare has been living between two cultures and continents: her native Lithuania and her home in the USA. Vilma Mare's original style developed by studying her own origin: Baltic indigenous culture and mythology. Transforming the surface decor of Iron Age artifacts into boiled wool fabric, she invented a texturized sartorial technique that led to new fashion aesthetics.

Vilma Mare's designs are created using knit and felted fabrics made from natural fibers. Her designs feature rhythmic lines, rich textures, exposed and raw seams, and stitching and gathering details. Her textural techniques result in a perfect fit with an architectural look and feel.

Born Vilma Marija Naujikaite in the Baltic region of Eastern Europe, designer Vilma Mare received a BA in fashion design from Kaunas Art College in Lithuania. She came to the USA from Lithuania in 1989, soon after the Berlin Wall was down. In the USA, she continued her studies at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. Mare has shown in galleries around the world, including France, Lithuania, and New York City.

very disappointing

this item is interesting although the color brown is quite different from the photo. it has a strong, unpleasant scent that is off-putting and even lingered on the sweater i tried it on over. disappointed in quality and unhappy about paying postage both ways for an article that is unwearable.

We are sorry to hear of your displeasure. New wool garments often have a scent that can be a bit unsettling. However, the smell can be attributed to lanolin, a natural sheep oil that is present in wool and does dissipate over time. Lovely piece

This is a very nice piece. I already have it in black and recently ordered the red which is a very deep beautiful rich red. It fits well. The only issue I have is that it smells like wet hair or animal hair. I not sure if it is the smell of the fabric, but my previously purchase in black did not have this smell and I was able to wear immediately.
With this red one, it will be awhile before I can wear it due to the strong smell. I have it hanging to air out. Otherwise a great piece.

Classy and colorful accessory

I bought this sweater/scarf in the red and it's just lovely against my long silver hair. In my late sixties, I seldom want to get "bundled up" in a bulky coat during winters in the Midwest as I get too warm (since I'm usually only a few feet between my car and the indoors while running errands or meeting friends for dinner of a matinee).

This piece will add versatility to my wardrobe, filling a gap, and for that reason I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it in the coming years. It feels like luxurious, soft wool against my neck and the gathering across the shoulders enables the front of this scarf to lie flat against the front of me. I also adore the pockets-just large enough for my car fob and a favorite lipstick!
