Josh Simpson

"Sometimes, seeing an aurora borealis, watching a thunderstorm develop, or just looking at the sky on a perfect summer night compels me to translate some of the wonder of the universe into my glass."

Josh Simpson is moved by the beauty of the night sky and other astronomical phenomena. Physics, cosmology, and the workings of the universe fascinate him, as do high temperature chemistry, powered flight, and all things mechanical. Contradiction, paradox, and magic lead him to experiment and often push him far outside his comfort zone.

For Simpson, glass possesses an inner light and transcendent radiant heat that make it simultaneously one of the most rewarding and one of the most frustrating materials to work with. He tries to coax and shape...but the glass just wants to drip on the floor! Most of his work reflects a compromise between himself and the molten material; each finished piece is a solidified moment when they both agree.

Josh Simpson received a BA from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. He has shown his award-winning work around the USA and across the world, from New Mexico to The Netherlands, Iowa to Taiwan. His work can be found in notable public collections including the Corning Museum of Glass, the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Stunning!

If I could give this 100 stars I would! I had actually bought another one and, though lovely, I knew it wasn't the right choice for my husband's 80th birthday. It will have to go to someone else. To say that the one by Josh Simpson exceeded my expectations is an understatement. When I first opened it, I literally couldn't stop looking at it for 30 minutes. It draws you in so completely. I could hardly wait for my husband's birthday to give it to him. HIs reaction? Speechless and then tears. I guess he liked it! So glad I didn't get him that tie!

Nice!

It's very cool. I would expect anyone who appreciates art and the beauty of the universe to like this. I also am intrigued by the craftsmanship that goes into these. Colors were darker than expected, but still very vibrant. It holds enough similarity to the photo/description that it doesn't disappoint.

Anniversary Gift

Shhhh, I was very happy to access a Josh S. glass world for a surprise my husband. We will celebrate our 50th wedding Anniversary in July so please keep it a secret! We have known about and admired these globes for many years. Don't you agree it'll be the perfect gift?

I LOVE THIS PAPERWEIGHT!

It is wonderful Josh Simpson! I love the colors--soft blues and greens with yellows, whites, cream and a vibrant purple/violet. I believe that he may do this paperweight in different designs and colors--the picture in the catalog and online has a different color emphasis-- very bold and dramatic blues, greens, whites. I would have loved this color interpretation, too. But I'm very happy with my paperweight. Josh Simpson is a wonderful artist whose work I would buy again and again!
