Richard Satava

Satava Art Glass Inc.
"I am outside all the time; my studio is open and part of the natural setting around it. My designs are related to nature, since it is where I like to be. I pay particular attention to vivid colors, high-quality craftsmanship, and the feeling that a design captures. "

Master glass artist Richard Satava is inspired by what he sees around him every day. From the landscapes he observes to the fascinating images he envisions from the depths of the ocean, Satava finds plenty to spur his creativity.

Satava blends centuries-old techniques and modern sensibilities to create original designs in glass. While on the blowpipe, a piece is transformed using exclusive color formulas, then shaped and blown without the use of molds, and finally signed, dated, and numbered. Satava's brilliant colors coupled with his ability to achieve remarkable detail and dimension bring his much sought-after creations to life.

Richard Satava was introduced to glassblowing in 1969 while in high school in Pacifica, California. He then studied art and glassblowing at the College of San Mateo and California State University, Chico, where he was also a technician for the glass shop. In 1977, he established his own glass studio, Satava Art Glass, in Chico, Northern California.

Amazing

My new favorite piece of art. This has a sort of hypnotic beauty that commands you to really look at the light it emits and the 'moving' shapes inside. I can't stop looking at it and as a bonus, it is now my very cool night light.

Ethereal and mesmerizing!

I have the small jellyfish and love it! I decided to get the big one and I am so happy I did. People are always drawn to them immediately!

Amazing

I have this setting on an antique table from a long time former employers estate. He was very instrumental in my being in the position I am in today. It sets in a large window facing south and is simply dazzling during the day. I have it on a switch that turns on the LED light in the base at sunset and turns it off 6 hours later. And that effect is even better than the sunlit afternoon light. I love this thing. How did God think of jellyfish?
