Scott Summerfield Glass
"I create a combination of functional and decorative glass objects that enhance one's personal space. A delicate balance of beauty and tension makes this work unique and curious. My strengths lie in bold color, crisp line, and symmetrical balance."

Scott Summerfield has been an object maker his whole life. His fascination with creating came at an early age, as he was an avid maker of toy models. From fabrication to surface application, attention to detail has always been prominent in his art. His works are uniquely designed with a sense of precision and balance.

Scott Summerfield's creative process begins in the hot shop. The molten glass is often rolled into metallic leaves or blown into optic molds to create an active surface. Summerfield's skills shine in the cold shop, where each piece is cut, ground, polished, and assembled. Working without an assistant, Summerfield is resourceful in how he creates his work. His shop is filled with various jigs to assist him in the making.

Scott Summerfield's career in glass began at Penland School of Crafts in 1997. He continued his education at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, Tennessee. He later apprenticed with an established glass artist for three years in St. Paul, Minnesota, and continued to hone his skills in the glass shop. He is the sole owner and operator of Summerfield Glass, which opened in 2004.
