Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix

Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix

Hokanson Dix Glass
"Our work is a contrast between the flash of modern life and the serenity of quiet forms."

Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix collaborate in creating original glass art defined by vibrant colors, bold canework, and simple, organic forms. Their work has been influenced by everything from classic Italian glassblowing to world textiles and urban graffiti. These elements inspire each piece to be about action that is trapped for a moment in time. The simple forms suggest just enough movement to emphasize the drama of their saturated, luminescent colors.

Hokanson and Dix use a combination of traditional Italian and Swedish glassblowing techniques as well as many experimental techniques that they have developed in their studio. Murrini and overlays are incorporated, and the incalmo process is often used. The artists create depth in each piece by using both transparent and opaque colors.

Bengt Hokanson started taking glassblowing glasses while receiving a BA in anthropology from Tulane University. He further developed his skills at Pilchuck Glass School, The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass, and Urban Glass in Brooklyn, New York. Trefny Dix received a BFA in sculpture from Indiana University. She learned glass casting while working at Studio Inferno in New Orleans, and she has also studied glass at Pilchuck Glass School and The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass.

Stunningly beautiful!

This ruby purse is better than the picture. It has a luminous quality that permeates throughout the entire vase and the curves catch all of colors making it a perfect piece of art!
