Samuelson's paintings often begin very abstract and monochromatic. This one started out red, she drew on it and then painted the sky, stems and leaves allowing the red ground to come through and ultimately to become the red tulips. This is a pigment print of an original oil on panel painting. Printed with archival pigmented inks on archival William Turner paper. Signed and numbered limited edition of 250. Image size 16"W x 16H". Paper size 20"W x 20"H.

"I believe that flowers exist to beautify our world and bring us joy. The beauty of a flower is so amazing, yet so fleeting. My paintings are the way that I share the joy I feel from the beauty around me. It is incredibly fulfilling for others to experience that joy as they view my artwork. "

Sarah Samuelson loves to watch her brush put down colors, shapes, and textures; the way they complement and invigorate each other intrigues her. She paints to preserve the beauty that is around her. The artist says painting is a spiritual process for her. It is a way for her to express her gratitude for the beauty of God's creations, in a format that can be shared with all.

She prepares her surface by first thinking about the color palette that will be used. She paints abstractly at first, then sketches the image with soft vine charcoal, fixes the drawing onto the surface, and continues to paint, letting the early processes show through in her finished piece of art. Samuelson is constantly sketching her surroundings. Many of her paintings come from her sketch books.

As a child, Samuelson was constantly drawing and painting. She continued to nurture her talents and skills as an artist and received her BFA degree from Brigham Young University. She went on to teach at Utah Valley University for several years, teaching painting, drawing, color theory, and art history. Currently, she is pursuing careers as a fine artist and mother.
