Louise Norrell's inspiration for her jewelry comes from a number of things, including the lush colors, fabrics, and textures of the Caribbean and the fragmented appearance of old, falling down buildings. Also, for better or worse, she has always been influenced by comics, having loved comic strips, New Yorker cartoons, and issues of Mad Magazine as she was growing up.
Often using molds that she has created, Norrell die forms most of her pieces and adds texture with chasing techniques or a hammer. She prefers to work in white or yellow gold and sterling silver, combining the metals in compelling and detailed designs.
After years of working in a contemporary jewelry store in the small college town of Athens, Georgia, Louise Norrell decided to start her own business. Having gained the necessary experience of learning how a piece can best flatter the wearer, Norrell knew that she was ready to develop, design, and market her own handcrafted work.
