This golden brooch was fabricated by stacking and splicing handmade chain links to create angular layered shapes. It has a double pin stem so it can be worn in any direction. It was made out of sterling silver and then plated with 14k yellow gold vermeil.

Emily Rogstad

"I use wire as lines to create drawings in space."

A repetitious habit of sketching structures and patterns has translated into a graphic body of work with the qualities of a drawing. Wire and line are used to create planes, define space and build structures.

Rogstad’s jewelry has a heavy focus on fabrication; each chain link and setting is constructed by hand in her studio. Clean lines and precise placement of links form shapes and patterns. Gemstones add a wash of color to the linear forms she builds.

Emily graduated from Maine College of Art with a degree in Metalsmithing and Jewelry, before moving to North Carolina for the two year Core Fellowship at Penland School of Craft. She has been a practicing studio jeweler since, as well as taking, assisting and teaching classes at craft schools up and down the East coast.
