The cicada lives underground for years — patient, waiting, transforming in the dark — and then emerges into the light with wings that seem too beautiful for this world. This pendant captures that emergence and wears it close to your heart.

Real cicada wings are layered between multiple pieces of glass and sealed in archival resin — a process that builds depth the way a painter builds glazes, one translucent layer over another. When the resin cures, the shape is hand-cut, revealing a composition you can see through — wing veins suspended in glass, light traveling through each layer, creating an effect that shifts and shimmers as you move. It is less like wearing jewelry and more like wearing a tiny, illuminated world.

The pendant is set in patterned sterling silver, its surface adding texture and contrast that frames the luminous center the way a lead came frames a stained glass window. The back is open, so light passes through freely — indoors, outdoors, in candlelight or afternoon sun, this piece is always alive with it.

"My current body of work is a marriage of elegance and the unexpected. The contemporary movement of the metalwork is in sharp contrast to the primitive elements of rough stones and enamels."

Evolution would be the best word to describe how Laura works. Her background is in illustration and painting. She has explored ceramic sculpture and was known for many years for the figurative jewelry incorporating porcelain sculpture with metal work. Laura's progression into enamel work seemed inevitable. She is always looking for new ways to express herself through her art.

Laura uses traditional metalsmith techniques including manipulating metal with hammers, fire, cutting, and soldering. Her experimentations with enamel and her love for rough stones and found objects keep Laura's work fresh and surprising.

Laura is mostly self-taught, however she attends a variety of workshops to expand her artistic vocabulary.
